Never be mine...

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 19, 2008, 4:32 PM
Those who have seen the latest PhotoShop User TV show might recognize the color effect :-)

Behind the picture

I watched PhotoShop User TV today and the "300" lightroom preset looked really cool. I played around with some old photos and had to realize that the preset only works with very few pictures. The very happy with here but it might look odd on some (uncalibrated) monitors.

For the background I used the great Grunge brushes made by =Metal-CX, the feathers came from ~Falln-Brushes. The model is my sweet muse ~FrauSchmidt. The base picture is not new. When we did the session for "Still too hot" we made quite a few shot too make sure we got the right angle, so this is basically recycling of the leftovers ;-)

The long pause...

Well this was a long pause since my last post. Moved to a new place together with my favourite model. But enough talking for now, let's post something instead.

Yikes! My first DD!

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 27, 2007, 11:23 PM
When I logged in last night I just wanted to check out the works from the artists I watch. Then I noticed that the pageviews suddenly had spiked over the 5000 mark. Could this be true?

So this is the first time I'm featured for a Daily Deviation. It is super exciting since I only came to Deviant Art a few weeks ago. But what's the best about this DD is the picture that was chosen.

With a few exceptions my photos are barely more than snapshots. Usually I only have a general idea about what I want to do and how to set the lights but the actual picture is worked out with the model during the shoot. That got me some very beautiful pictures but I wanted to have more of a story behind the photos.

Behind the picture

What's different with Still too hot is that this is the first photo idea that I really planned from the very beginning. And it turned out just as we had it in mind :)

~FrauSchmidt and I sat down and she came up with this idea of a giant woman and a burning house. The next week we bought a model railway house and a background cloth (which was not used in the end) and then set up the photo. The actual shooting was one of the shortest sessions I ever had. We only took a couple of pictures and then it was perfect - setting up the lights took much longer. The model house was a little too big for our idea so I shot it seperately under the same lighting conditions.

Originally I did not want to use stock. Never had used stock before and I was somehow cautious because I don't want to violate copyrights. I have no problem giving people credit for their work but some usage rules are quite restrictive. Photographing the flames did not work - a candle is much too small and I did not want to risk burning down my house for a photo of a bigger flame. I tried to paint them but that just looked ridiculous . So I looked through DA and found the great flames by ~tirasco-madawa that had very acceptable usage rights :D. The original background cloth was not ideal so I used the texture from ~Enchantedgal-Stock. In total I worked about five hours on this picture until the lighting and colors were as I had them in mind.

I have to say I'm really happy with the result. A big thanks to the many people sharing their stock on DA! I'm sure I will use more in the future :)

Shameless cross-promotion!

Those of you who know my stuff also know her face. There is no doubt that ~FrauSchmidt is my favourite model. Working with her is just great - she has humour, is professional and is able to hold weird, painful poses for as long as the bloody photographer takes. And even though she's a beautiful lady she can make really stupid faces - and allows me to post them :D

Now she has an account on DA but as usual there is not much traffic there. So if you like her pictures, give her a visit and say hello to her.

And some more pictures of her in my account:

After being sick the last week I'm back to life again. Met with ~FrauSchmidt today and discussed the next photo shootings. Wow, she was buzzing with ideas - this is going to be great! Now we just need to find the time for that....
